OM 山洞

During my world travels, I went to Om Shandong - a small-scale experimental community located in Dali, Yunan Province, China. Intuitively, I felt a strong connection with the people there, and I knew this was where I needed to be - it has been three years now.

The flowing lifestyle - intimate, independent, and jointly created by people of different backgrounds - follows a simple and autonomic rhythm. We live, create, practice self-awareness, and share the love and light, impromptu and in earnest.

Started in 2013 by Peta, a Russian musician - it was surprising for me to see such a place in China. Focussing on all the intricate aspects of daily life and human relationship - we are open as a community, making decisions by voting and talking circles - keeping every individual equal.

This is the only such community in China and I don’t know how long it will last, so I felt it is important to document the place while it exists. For me, life and photography are the same but in different dimensions.  Photography has been my way to look at life and people - to make images to reflect upon who we are and how we have changed.
